«"At the very beginning of each summer, the streets of Toulouse resonate with the sounds of tango. Dances and concerts are everywhere: in the squares, on the café terraces, along the banks of the Garonne… the public, from Toulouse and beyond, faithfully attends the annual Tangopostale festival. It is these moments of dance, captured in candid photographs taken over several consecutive years of the festival, that I offer you.".
The universal language of dance fascinates me; I confess to having been captivated by the elegance and sensuality of these couples dancing the tango. I wanted to photograph the strong, intense, and intimate connections between the partners, their bodies entwined and carried away by the rhythm of the music. My favorite subjects are all there: glances, hands, gestures, the contact of bodies, the interplay of light… I hope my photos invite you to join in this magnificent dance.»

Marie Hyvernaud
Photography has become a lifelong passion for Marie Hyvernaud. A self-taught photographer, Marie first learned the craft from her brother and then at a community center (MJC). She furthered her training by participating in workshops, notably with Jean Dieuzaide. She has practiced extensively, initially with film and later with digital. This has resulted in a strong interest in black and white photography, whether portraits, street scenes, or atmospheric shots. Marie Hyvernaud has had the opportunity to participate in festivals and make wonderful connections, which has led to solo and group exhibitions. She regularly shares her work in progress with a research group in Carcassonne.
Marie Hyvernaud's documentary photographs focus on communities and the bonds forged between their members. She has extensively photographed the hearing-impaired community and communication in sign language; more recently, she has explored the farming community and its struggling traditions. She also visited a mountain village where she created a gallery of portraits of its inhabitants, revealing the soul of each individual, allowing us to glimpse their secrets of life. Marie Hyvernaud loves to photograph bodies in motion, capturing their beauty, movement, and physical ease and agility, like that of dancers. She has also conveyed the grace of sign language in her photographs, as seen in her recent work, Resonance.
As you might have guessed, ordinary people attract this photographer, the people we often overlook; this is how rural life and disability came to resonate with her. Above all, Marie seeks light, authenticity, and a profound emotional connection with the people she photographs. Capturing the moment is her passion, to the point of making the invisible visible.
