Simplify your dance, enhance your tango: comfort and nuances
A workshop with Laure Fourest & Carmela Acuyo
Workshop

Price : €65 per day

This year again, Laure Fourest and Carmela Acuyo are delighted to join forces to offer you a workshop that celebrates everything that makes us dance, beyond the steps themselves. These steps are, in fact, only one element of the dance among a whole range of tools for interpreting music, which are unfortunately too rarely taken seriously in learning.

What if, ultimately, the magic of dance lies not so much in the steps we perform, but in the nuances we develop to execute them?
Based on the fundamental movements of tango (walking, pivoting, turns…), we invite you to explore (and we will focus on the specific characteristics of of each role):

• How to make our bodies respond to all degrees of nuance (dynamic posture work, connections, etc.)

• How to vary our physical states according to the music (e.g., staccato or legato do not call for the same quality of muscle tone in my body)

• How to revisit our "steps" or sequences of "steps" by giving them depth: playing on their amplitude, their speed/rhythm, their connection to the ground…

• And of course, all of this will be closely linked to attentive listening to the music: we will choose a few excerpts from well-known pieces and explore some of their possible interpretations together. We will send you the details of these pieces a few days before the session by email so you can familiarize yourself with them.

You will be asked to work on each exercise using simple forms. You will then be free to revisit, deconstruct, and reconstruct the more complex steps you know in the light of these explorations of energy, rhythm, etc. We will be there to guide you through this process.

We encourage you to register with someone of a similar skill level. If you register alone, you will be expected to change partners regularly and dance with everyone regardless of experience. Partnering is warmly welcomed.

• Schedules : From 10:30 am to 4 pm, with a 1-hour lunch break
• Required level: from 1 year of regular tango practice
• Recommended outfit: As you wish, as long as you are comfortable! If you dance in heels, please come with flat dance shoes/slippers (or thick socks) AND your heels.
• Languages: The workshop will be given in French, but can be summarized individually in English and Spanish if needed for non-French speakers.
• Pre-registration: Money shouldn't be an issue; feel free to contact Laure Fourest to discuss it if needed. laurefourest@yahoo.fr

Laure Fourest

Laure Fourest

"I have danced for as long as I can remember and have been a tango dancer for 15 years. I teach weekly in the Drôme region and travel to give workshops in France and Belgium, within associations or for festivals. Depending on the occasion, I work alone, enjoying dancing and teaching both roles, or with different partners.
Trained in Anatomy for Movement, and currently developing my osteopathy practice alongside my tango teaching, I am committed to placing physical comfort and the interpretation of music at the heart of my teaching, to accompany tango dancers on the journey their body experiences in this subtle and sensitive dance. Inhabiting one's body ever more consciously, gently, and respectfully; making it a vibrant instrument in dialogue with the music; this is what interests me, what teaching dance means to me, what gives meaning to my profession.

Carmela Acuyo

Carmela Acuyo has been a professional dancer for over 25 years (classical and contemporary dance) and is the artistic director of the Vendaval dance company.

"For over 15 years, I have had the pleasure of teaching Argentine Tango weekly, as well as offering workshops, in various cities across France and through very enriching partnerships. Being aware of the risks that result from a poor understanding and use of our bodies, I have decided to develop a tango technique teaching method based on anatomy in movement, prioritizing respect and bodily comfort. Having also trained in body-mind therapy, I am eager to share tools to develop autonomy, creativity, self-confidence, and personal growth through this magnificent dance."
