✦ "The 30th anniversary of the one and only Tango magazine: La Salida"
For this first Café Tango, Jean-Luc Thomas and France Garcia Ficheux will discuss the 30th anniversary of the only tango magazine, "La Salida" (more than 140 issues), in the presence of Solange Bazely, who founded the magazine. Using various sources (photos, videos), they will highlight the most beautiful issues published and also discuss the challenges facing this magazine, which reaches out to a wide readership whether new to tango or more knowledgeable. And as a sneak peek, we might even get a glimpse of what will be happening in Paris to celebrate this anniversary.

Jean-Luc Thomas

Jean-Luc Thomas

A journalist who writes for "Le Populaire du Centre" and who wrote for "L’Equipe" from 1987 to 2013, Jean-Luc is also a published author .

Since 1990, Jean-Luc Thomas has traveled regularly to Argentina and since 2010, he has directed the specialized cultural magazine "La Salida," which we will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.

He has written several books on Argentine tango, notably "Chemins de tango" (Ed. Atlantica, 1998) and the beautiful book "Tangos" (SOLAR, 2004 – preface by Hanna Schygulla). His book "Footango, les muscles du tango" (Atlantica-Seguier, 2002) was published in a revised and expanded edition in Argentina under the title "Tangol, conjuro extraño de un amor hecho gambeta" (Corregidor, 2016).

Jean-Luc Thomas also written and hosted various tango radio programmes with Laurent Valero on France Musique. In 2006, he curated the "Aux Cœurs du tango" exhibition at the Issy-les-Moulineaux media library, and in 2014, was the curator of the exhibition "Figures de tango" exhibition at the International Center for Press Cartoons and Humor in Saint-Just-le-Martel (Haute-Vienne).

His latest project is the documentary film "Suite Juárez" (2023), for which he wrote the screenplay. He co-directed this feature film in Argentina with Alejandro Venturini. "Suite Juárez" is dedicated to the singer and bandoneon player Rubén Juárez, a major tango artist.

France Garcia Ficheux

France Garcia Ficheux

A professional journalist and proofreader, France Garcia Ficheux naturally offered to contribute to "La Salida". It was after reading Elsa Osorio's beautiful book "Tango" (Ed. Métailié 2007) that she felt the urge to learn this dance.

This is how she met, at classes on Sundays in Paris, the association Le Temps du Tango and of course discovered the magazine "La Salida".

For more than ten years now, France Garcia Ficheux has not only had a proofreading role for the cultural magazine but has also signed numerous articles.
